The Core Facility at the Institute of Cellular and Organismic Biology (ICOB), was established in 2003, and is overseen by the ICOB Instrument and Information Management Committee. The facility is operated by highly experienced staff, including three specialists and five assistants. In order to provide efficient technical consultation, unique expertise and reliable research services to ICOB investigators, the Core Facility is divided into the Biochemistry and Imaging Cores.

The Imaging Core provides a collection of state-of-the-art light and electron microscopy equipment, as well as image processing tools for ICOB members.

Within the Imaging Core, the Light Microscopy Facility offers a variety of microscope imaging modalities, including laser scanning confocal, depth tissue (multiphoton excitation), FLIM-FRET, living cell, time lapse, and 3D superresolution imaging. The Electron Microscopy Facility provides a full-service sample preparation, ultramicrotomy, cryo-ultramicrotomy, immunolabeling, negative staining & rotary shadowing of macromolecules, and morphological analysis by TEM. Our services include training on all equipment and technician-assisted operation of microscopes.
