個體的增長與細胞有絲分裂息息相關,並仰賴功能精準的有絲分裂以正確的將遺傳訊息傳遞給子細胞。當參與細胞分裂的組件被破壞而使有絲分裂無法順利進行時,會導致有絲分裂期細胞死亡,因而能降低子細胞發生基因組異常的機會,避免疾病發生。但癌細胞常發生中心體倍增或紡錘體失常而致使有絲分裂異常,為使有絲分裂能順利完成和細胞增殖,癌細胞必須設法減弱有絲分裂期細胞死亡,這常造成癌細胞的進一步惡化、復發或抗藥性。因此如何控制有絲分裂期細胞死亡是癌症發生或治療的關鍵。

我們利用培養的細胞以細胞生物學方法,系統性的解構有絲分裂期的細胞如何因應不利環境而得以存活的細胞和分子機制。希望透過這些研究能進一步了解癌症發生的關鍵和可能的治療標的。
